Anion Dependence in the Partitioning between Proton and Electron Transfer in Ion/Ion Reactions

چکیده
Gas-phase reactions of singly-charged anions with multiply-protonated peptides, in a RF quadrupole linear ion trap, leads to either peptide deprotonation (proton transfer) or electron deposition (electron transfer). The former process induces peptide backbone cleavage through a reaction scheme analogous to electron capture dissociation (ECD). Here we characterize the preferred reaction pathways of several anions with multiply-protonated peptides. These anions include sulfur dioxide, perfluoro-1,3dimethyl-cyclohexane, sulfur hexafluoride, anthracene, and 9,10 diphenylanthracene. In our ion/ion apparatus, we find some anions react exclusively via proton transfer, others react by proton and electron transfer, while another behaved predominantly as an electron transfer agent.

A New Colorimetric Azo-azomethine Probe for Fluoride Ion Detection Based on the Proton Transfer Signaling Mode: Real-life Applications
Four novel receptors were designed and synthesized for colorimetric detection of F− ions. The introduction of four electron withdrawing groups into the backbone of the receptors makes the two phenolic groups efficient hydrogen bonding sites. The binding properties of receptors with anions were examined for the first time by UV–Vis, 1H NMR and fluorescence spectroscopies. The addition of F− resu...
متن کاملStructures of Fluoranthene Reagent Anions Used in Electron Transfer Dissociation and Proton Transfer Reaction Tandem Mass Spectrometry.
Ion/ion reactions have in recent years seen widespread use in ion activation methods such as electron transfer dissociation (ETD) tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) as well as in charge manipulation of highly charged peptides/proteins and their fragments by proton transfer reaction (PTR). These techniques have, in combination, enabled top-down proteomics on limited-resolution benchtop mass spectr...
متن کاملElectron transfer versus proton transfer in gas-phase ion/ion reactions of polyprotonated peptides.
The ion/ion reactions of several dozen reagent anions with triply protonated cations of the model peptide KGAILKGAILR have been examined to evaluate predictions of a Landau-Zener-based model for the likelihood for electron transfer. Evidence for electron transfer was provided by the appearance of fragment ions unique to electron transfer or electron capture dissociation. Proton transfer and ele...

Density functional theory dispersion corrected (DFT-D3)calculations and molecular dynamic (MD) simulation were applied to investigate the sensing ability of four types of receptors (RCs) composed of the ortho-phenylenediamine based bis-ureas for selective complexation with the anions such as Cl–, Br–, OAC–, PhCO2–, H2PO4– and HSO4– in the gas phase and DMSO. On the basis of the data obtained fr...
متن کاملImpact of Various Beam Parameters on Lateral Scattering in Proton and Carbon-ion Therapy
Background: In radiation therapy with ion beams, lateral distributions of absorbed dose in the tissue are important. Heavy ion therapy, such as carbon-ion therapy, is a novel technique of high-precision external radiotherapy which has advantages over proton therapy in terms of dose locality and biological effectiveness. Methods: In this study, we used Monte Carlo method-based Geant4 toolkit to s...
